Chapter 1339 Contemplate Carefully
"Keep me updated, don't start going incognito like Rex always did whenever he is away"
"Don't worry, I'll keep in touch. You make sure also to contact me if something happens"
"Yes, I'll do that"
Evelyn was currently escorting Adhara who was already geared for battle to the front gate.
A couple of hours earlier, Rex contacted Evelyn through telepathy, telling her to send Adhara to the Elve Kingdom to reinforce Gistella, and Flunra. Rex said that the matters with Shadow, need to be handled as quickly as possible.
Since the Elves only had Shadow to deal with, taking it out would make more room.
He was not comfortable letting Gistella and Flunra stay there for too long.
Considering that five Knight-class Order Beasts were sandwiching the Dwarves, the faster they handled Shadow, the faster they could help the Dwarves. Due to that, Rex decided to focus the forces on the Elves before moving on to the Dwarves.
Instead of sending only Adhara there, this is the better choice in his view.
"Did Rex tell you where he was?"
"No. I asked him but all he said was that he was convincing himself"
"Convincing himself? What did he mean by that?"
"I'm not sure but if I had to guess, must be the increasing demands from the other kingdoms for sending their representatives to take root in our city. He seemed to be troubled, so much that his face changed"
"Hmm? I thought he already resolved to make a safe haven out of our city"
"I don't know. Let's give him some space"
Just as the two were talking, a burning sensation prompted them to gaze into the horizon.
A frown crossed both of their faces.
"Is that Kyran's feelings?"
"Yes, this sensation... did he go berserk?"
Both of them knew clearly the sensation of going berserk, Rex had been going berserk for a couple of times before, so they were familiar with the sensation. However, this was the very first time they felt this kind of sensation coming from Kyran.
Kyran had always been in control.
Or rather, he didn't care enough about anything that would push him enough to be berserk.
Now that Adhara and Evelyn knew that Kyran had Naela with him, they thought of the worst.
"Should I go and check on him before I go to the Elves?" Adhara asked.
Upon hearing this, Evelyn shook her head, "If something did happen to Naela, that made him go berserk like this, then we're already—too late. Just go to where you're supposed to go, I'll see if I can reach him and talk to him"
Having no qualms with that, Adhara nodded and continued on her way.
Right before she returned, Linthia came approaching and bowed before her.
"Your Majesty, the mutated eagle is getting better but I'm still worried," Linthia said—voicing her concerns. "Its core is still pulsating. I also received news from the Elves, that Lord Flunra and Lady Gistella were wounded from an exploding core. I fear that this might be—the same case"
"Should I arrange for the mutated eagle to be transported away?" She suggested.
Evelyn didn't instantly answer, she contemplated for a moment.
She knew that the mutated eagle helped Rex and even saved Adhara, it must be repaid.
But even then, there was no need to risk the castle.
"Prepare a spot for it in the forest, tell the Forest's Overseer to protect it," Evelyn instructed.
Just as Linthia was about to do that, she noticed a guard approaching them.
Knowing that she was lacking in terms of strength compared—to the other captains, Linthia made sure to excel in everything else. She remembered every guard face that was assigned to the castle.
Realizing that this guard was foreign, she frowned.
Before the guard could come closer, Linthia raised her staff and barred the guard's path.
"Who are you? How did you get here?" She asked demandingly.
Upon hearing this, Dindora who was also nearby disappeared and reappeared behind the guard. She grew from the ground right behind the ground—like a tree, and had her sword ready to strike.
Evelyn squinted her eyes, inspecting the guard.
But she soon recognized the guard, it was Dizura, the guard that met with her before.
"Dizura, is it?"
"Your Majesty..."
Linthia turned to Evelyn in question, "Do you know him, Your Majesty?"
"Yes, stand down and let him through," Evelyn said, placing her hand gently on Linthia's staff.
Heeding her words, Linthia sheathed back her staff and straightened her posture.
Dindora also did the same thing.
Now that the two of them had already calmed down, Evelyn focused back on Dizura.
"Why have you come to see me today? Is there something more you want to say to me?"
"Yes, there is, Your Majesty..."
Upon saying that, Dizura suddenly fell to his knees, tears streaming down his eyes.
"Please, Your Majesty. Let me bury Arkan with honor. I know what he did was wrong but he must be controlled, it was not him that did what he did. Had he retained his mind, he would never hurt the people of our city. I knew him even minutes before his death—Arkan was on the frontline, defending the city!"
"Slow down and tell me what happened?"
"His corpse was taken away from me, the others wouldn't allow me to bury him"
Just then, Dindora who was listening from the back sneered, "Honor for someone who killed an innocent woman, a precious vassal of the city? There will be no honor for him, conscious, or not, that woman was dead because of him"
"Sister, he might be controlled. We don't really know..." Linthia added, defending Dizura.
But Dindora wasn't having it, "Yet that woman still died by his hands, there's no denying it"
Even until this moment, the caster of the living dead spell was still unknown.
Since the spell remained unknown, it was hard to determine whether Arkan did it because he was controlled or was it his true self. Regardless of which, that happened right in front of the people so this kind of backlash was natural.
"Linthia..." Evelyn finally said, pivoting towards Linthia. "See to it that Arkan is buried"
"Your Majesty, His Majesty wouldn't approve this," Dindora protested.
Upon hearing this, Evelyn cast a glance at Dindora, forcing her to avert her gaze elsewhere.
It doesn't matter which one is the truth, the dead must be respected.
"Well His Majesty is not here, is he, Captain Dindora?" Evelyn asked—her voice laced with sharpness. "As long as he is not around, I—as the Empress is the highest authority. Or are you protesting against that too?"
"Should we ask the Emperor if he approves of you doubting my judgment?" She added.
Swallowing her words, Dindora bowed, "No. I apologize for stepping out of my line"
Only when Dindora did that did Evelyn wave her hand, dismissing them from her sight.
Of course, Dizura thanked her repeatedly as he was brought away.
An hour later, Evelyn got out once again to see the progress of transporting the eagle.
Not too long ago, she had made contact with Kyran telling her to now worry.
He did lose control when Naela got severely wounded but she survived and he was fine.
Evelyn was grateful that nothing too bad happened.
But she was a little bit concerned when Kyran told her that he wouldn't be able to come back soon. Naela had gotten news that her parents were in trouble, and she instantly bolted away, leaving Kyran behind.
Once he managed to help Naela, he would then come back.
Of course, Evelyn told Kyran to take his time as Rex wasn't in the city right now.
She filled him in about Dravitar's attack and also the living dead situation.
Kyran understood and promised that he would keep in touch.
Now, Evelyn went out of the castle and headed straight to the main gate of the city.
Considering that both Dindora, and Linthia were taking charge of transporting—the mutated eagle, there shouldn't be a problem. Not wanting to be seen in public right now, Evelyn went to the main gate silently.
She passed through the crowd without anyone noticing.
Along the way, she saw that Dizura had already buried Arkan in the cemetery.
But the people only allowed Arkan's corpse to be buried on the corner of the cemetery—one that Evelyn couldn't press as the people would respond negatively if she did. Until there was solid proof, Dizura would need to be happy with that.
Reaching the top of the wall, Evelyn gazed down.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
She saw the city guards were making a path for the mutated eagle to go through.
It seemed everything was going well.
Or at least, everything was going well until now.
As she watched from the wall, Evelyn saw a commotion happening below, the guards had already drawn their weapons—and pointed at something or someone. However, since the dense trees were in the way, Evelyn couldn't see who they were pointing at.
Soon enough, Dindora and Linthia emerged.
Both of them walked backward slowly, pointing their weapons at a woman.
Just from their faces alone, they seemed extremely tense.
Upon seeing the face of the woman, Evelyn's eyebrows dipped into a hard frown.
"Giana...?" She muttered in confusion.
Appearance-wise, the woman was undoubtedly Giana, but if it was her then both Dindora— and Linthia wouldn't be this alert—at them. Evelyn came to realize why they were doing that when Giana tilted her head up to look at her.
Both of Giana's eyes were humming with a golden light.
It was the exact same golden light that Evelyn saw on Nadia's uncle at the banquet night.
From this alone, she knew who she was dealing with.
It was the third Angel who was a part of Catherine and Radiel's team.
"Little Angel... I see you now have learned from your grave mistake," Evelyn said—smiling in a condescending way. "How was it? I bet your wound, from the overwhelming energy—is still a lot of trouble for you"
Upon hearing this, the possessed Giana, chuckled, "I admit it, I underestimated your forces. I guess I'll have to put more respect to the new forces that dominated the new era, I should've expected this much"
"Why don't you come down here so we can have a talk, Empress" She added.
Dindora instantly rebutted, "Don't listen to her, Your Majesty!"
As much as Evelyn wanted to keep the upper hand, and act, with composure, Dindora was right, she could not get close lest the Angel was prepared to do something, "What's wrong with talking like this? It's appropriate considering our difference in standing"
"Does it hurt your pride to look up at me?" Evelyn taunted, trying to rile the Angel.
But it didn't seem to be working at all, the Angel was unfazed by those remarks.
'It's not a young Angel, that's for sure,' Evelyn pondered.
"My proposition remains. Free my friends and I'll free this woman and that Dragon boy"
"Dragon boy...?"
Evelyn couldn't hide her frown as she remembered Giana was sent on a mission with Ryze.
It seemed like the Angel managed to catch both Giana and Ryze.
"Your purpose for coming here is to find the location of the Fifthborn's death, right? I can aid you with that—but you need to tell me, the importance of that place. No need for us to clash like this and be enemies. I assure you, you wouldn't want us as your enemies"
"Is that a proposition or a threat?"
"It's a peaceful way for us to settle this,"
"What makes you think you have the upper hand against me? You kill my friends—and all of your people here alongside this woman, and the dragon boy will die. I will lose two and you, you would lose ten times as many"
Upon hearing this, Evelyn tilted her head as her face darkened.
"No, that's a wrong assessment," She said, her voice laced with murderous intent. "I have the upper hand because if I want to, I could kill you right now. Contemplate carefully, Angel, for if you pick the wrong answer, you will not see the next minute"
