Chapter 337
Qin Wenqiang's statement plunged the entire room into dead silence.
It seemed that the mistress finally realized something was amiss. No longer feigning fragility, with tears still streaking her face, she rushed to the lawyer and demanded, "Lawyer, you're Yang Feng's lawyer, right? You know these are Yang Feng's children, don’t you? They have every right to participate in the inheritance division, don’t they? You can’t break the law just because you’re afraid of the Qin family!"
The lawyer, sweating profusely, replied, "Madam, we naturally follow the law. But if what Ms. Qin says is true, and these children haven’t undergone paternity tests with Mr. Yang Feng, then they cannot participate in the inheritance division."
[Oh, so this lawyer has met the mistress before. In the past, Yang Feng often had this lawyer handle properties and finances for the mistress and his illegitimate children. However, due to confidentiality principles, the lawyer never informed Qin Wenqiang. Similarly, he wouldn’t help the mistress break the law now—he’s just following the rules.]
The Qin family, particularly Qin’s second uncle, finally understood why the mistress had been so confident earlier. She must have thought the lawyer was on her side, but in reality, he was just doing his job.
Meanwhile, the twins, though unable to hear Ji Fei’s inner thoughts, were excitedly discussing the situation.
"Big Cousin is amazing! She stayed so calm and made such quick, decisive moves—total annihilation!" Qin Xiaoyu exclaimed.
"It’s too bad Yang Feng died so quickly. If there had been more time, Big Cousin would have divorced him and left him with nothing. Now, she has to split the assets with those two old folks. It’s so gross," Qin Jing chimed in.
Qin Jiaxi, who had been quiet all this time, couldn’t help but reflect on the situation. The more she thought about it, the more she admired her cousin.
Back then, Big Cousin had agreed to an immediate divorce and leaving with nothing because she was willing to cooperate. But what if the situation had been reversed?n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
If Big Cousin had gathered evidence of her husband’s infidelity and demanded he leave with nothing, Yang Feng would never have agreed. Since he couldn’t take her to court anymore, he would have settled for a legal division of assets. Thus, Big Cousin was destined to be widowed, not divorced.
Once she understood her predicament, Big Cousin began strategizing to secure the maximum benefits for herself and her daughter under the circumstances of widowhood.
Qin Jiaxi found herself wondering, "Does this... even matter?"
Though she muttered it softly, almost to herself, those around her still heard it.
"Of course it matters! It’s satisfying! If someone dares to treat me like a fool, I’ll make them regret it!" Qin Xiaoyu declared. "If I’m not happy, no one else gets to be either."
"Love is gone, but why should money go to others? That would be too humiliating," Qin Yan added with a smile.
"Exactly. Love is elusive, true or false, but money is something tangible that belongs to you," Qin Rong said earnestly.
Qin Jiaxi was stunned by their words. Is that... really how it is?
Qin Xiaoyu had always been like this, but Qin Yan and Qin Rong used to be different. Qin Xian and Qin Zhao exchanged glances, as if they had just heard Ji Fei speaking.
Meanwhile, Ji Fei was still engrossed in the drama unfolding before her.
Over on the other side, the lawyer’s statement had caused an uproar. Who would have thought to arrange paternity tests from the start? Yang Feng had died so suddenly, leaving no time for such measures.
The mistress’s younger brother’s first reaction was to grab the urn. The absurdity of his actions left everyone speechless.
Yang Feng’s parents didn’t even try to stop him. Instead, they glared at Qin Wenqiang, as if expecting her to make a move.
The lawyer, watching the chaotic scene, couldn’t help but twitch his lips. "Everyone, there’s no need for this... The ashes can’t be used for testing. In other words, unless Mr. Yang Feng’s body is still intact and samples can be taken for testing, nothing else will hold legal weight."
At this, the mistress finally realized what had happened. She turned to Qin Wenqiang, her face a mix of shock and fury. "You... you did this on purpose! You knew all along. You had Yang Feng cremated so quickly just to secure the inheritance!"
Yang Feng’s parents also caught on and began wailing, pounding their chests and cursing Qin Wenqiang.
"I knew there was something off about how quickly you acted! You planned this all along, you vile woman! You burned my poor son just to get your hands on his money!"
"Our son is dead, and you still want to destroy our Yang family’s legacy!"
Qin Wenqiang sneered. "You schemed to divorce me and leave me with nothing, using the money I earned to raise your illegitimate children. Did you think I wouldn’t fight back?"
The other guests, who hadn’t expected such a juicy twist, began murmuring excitedly. They had assumed Qin Wenqiang had cremated Yang Feng’s body out of anger over his infidelity. But no—it was all part of her plan to secure the inheritance.
Everyone couldn’t help but marvel at Qin Wenqiang’s ruthlessness. She was on a completely different level compared to Yang Feng.
If they wanted to use her hard-earned money to raise his illegitimate children, she would strip those children of their inheritance rights entirely.
"Lawyer, lawyer! We can prove it! Test us!" Yang Feng’s parents suddenly shouted. "Yang Feng was our only son. If we can prove these are our grandchildren, then..."
Qin Wenqiang let out a cold laugh.
"That won’t work," the lawyer said.
"Then have Yang Weiwei take the test! If they’re proven to be siblings..." the mistress quickly suggested.
Yang Feng’s parents immediately turned their eager eyes to Yang Weiwei, as if they wanted to drag her into the test right then and there.
Yang Weiwei, however, remained unfazed. "Do I have any obligation to cooperate with you?" she asked, then turned to the lawyer. "Uncle, if I refuse, they can’t force me, right?"
The lawyer wiped his sweat. "Refusing the test is your right, Miss."
Seeing the hostile glares from the others, the lawyer felt compelled to add, "Even if they secretly conduct a test, it won’t hold any legal weight. Only if you willingly cooperate will it be valid."
This effectively blocked any underhanded tactics they might have tried.
The three younger brothers and one sister, though still young, were no strangers to such schemes. They glared at Yang Weiwei with venomous eyes.
Yang Weiwei, however, wasn’t intimidated. She rolled her eyes at them, making her stance clear:
Not a chance! Keep dreaming!
From then on, no amount of curses from Yang Feng’s parents or tearful pleas from the mistress could sway Yang Weiwei. Gradually, they realized that mother and daughter were determined to make their lives miserable. All they could do was glare at them with hatred.
Just as the lawyer was about to announce the division of assets, Qin Wenqiang called out, "Oh, and by the way, Yang Feng’s estate isn’t fully accounted for. You might have missed some things—like the money he spent on others behind my back. We’ll need to recover that too!"
