Chapter 109: Tower of Helion (2)
"Everyone, this area is dangerous; please stay back." a guard said to the crowd standing in front of the Tower of Helion. He looked at the people who were pushing one another and frowned before raising the transparent orb in front of his mouth.
"This tower is now closed due to some management problems. Please step back!"
"What do you mean by that it is closed off? We came here to pray!"
"Do you even know how long I have travelled to pray to Lord Helion?"
"My daughter is sick! I cannot go back without praying! Please let us in!"
. The guards pushed the crowd back while the crowd pushed the guards back. The situation turned more and more chaotic as the crowd refused to leave.
"Step away," Wistoria said to the men and the women who were pushing the guards. "We need to go inside."
"What are you doing—"
"Hey, we came here first, Lady," a man said to Wistoria, his hand reaching out to pull her back. But —
"AHHH!"
The man screamed and yelled in pain as he stumbled back. He was clutching his wrist that had been dislocated and raised his head to glare at the man who had broken his hands.
"Wha–what do you think—"
"Do not touch, Lady Wistoria," Xavier hissed at the man who had tried to get handy with Wistoria. His eyes flashing with murderous intent as the man backed down.
"Lady Wistoria?"
"Did he say Lady Wistoria?"
As the man fell back, the crowd started buzzing with excitement. They had heard about Wistoria and knew that she was the only female general of the Brystoria Empire. She had been stationed at Aeloria long enough for others to know about her fame.
"What is she doing here? Is she here to pray?"
"I don't think so, she is wearing her armour. This shows that she is here for battle," one of the men said to the one who made the remark. "I believe something happened inside the Temple of Helion. And this is why the guards are stopping us from going inside."
"What do you think happened?"
"Did the high priest die?"
"No, don't be silly. I am sure that it is due to the terrorists! They must be the one causing trouble."
"How can there be terrorists? The dark guilds were long destroyed."
"Then why do you think that Lady Wistoria came to this place?"
Wistoria, who had caused the entire crowd to buzz, pretended to be deaf. She stepped forward and looked at the guards before saying to them, "Step aside."
"Lady Wistoria," the guard looked at the woman with a hint of nervousness on his face. He seemed reluctant to let her inside but he also knew that if Wistoria was determined to head inside the temple, he was not strong enough to stop her.
"I said—step aside," Wistoria repeated in a cold voice. "You know it already; even if you stop me, you will only lose your head. And it will also waste precious time; the hostages inside the temple don't have that much time."
The guards pursed their lips. They looked at one another before stepping away from the door. Indeed, they could stop Wistoria from entering or even delay her, but would that help the hostages who were held by those dark guild members?
Wistoria stepped inside the temple with Levy and Xavier.
"It seemed like the guards were trying to control this situation," said Levy as he looked around the now silent tower of Helion.
"They are…." Wistoria agreed with him solemnly as the scent of rusted iron filled her nostrils. "But I don't think they succeeded."
She came to a stop, and so did the two men.
"What the—"
Levy looked at the number of corpses that were lying in front of them. Some had lost their heads, some had lost their limbs, and some of the corpses were mutilated to the point that they no longer resembled the human form of a beastman.
Dried-up blood was sticking on the pure white columns and pillars as well as the ground.
"Those bastards!" Levy cursed as he looked at the massacre in front of him. More than fifty guards were killed by those men.
Xavier, on the other hand, took a sniff of the air and muttered, "These are all low-ranked beastmen."
Hearing his response, Levy stiffened and turned to look at Xavier.
"They are dead," he snapped with his eyes filled with disbelief. "How can you say such a thing to them? They lost their, and all you want to say is that they were low-ranking beastmen?"
"That…"
"You are taking his words in the wrong way, Lord Levy," Wistoria turned her head just a degree to the right and said to Levy, "What Xavier wanted to say is that such a heavy and dangerous task was handed to the low-ranked beastman. Was it because they took this case as a light one mistakenly? Or did they deliberately dispatch the weak guards?"
Once she finished speaking, Wistoria headed inside the tower; her fists were clenched tightly as she walked past the corpses of the low-ranked beastmen.
No matter what status they held in society, Wistoria believed that they did not deserve a death as painful as this one.
"Hurry," Xavier glanced at Levy. "Who knows there might be some survivors?" Explore more stories at m,v l'e-NovelFire
Levy pursed his lips. He nodded and chased Wistoria inside the tower of Helion.
"Andres," Wistoria called out to the man who was sitting on the throne in the middle of the praying room. This throne was built for God Helion, but now Andres was sitting on it as if taking himself as the god of this world.
"Ah, lovely to see you, Wistoria," Andres smirked at the woman who was standing at the door of the praying room. "I had a feeling that you would come looking for me. That day, I did notice someone paying quite a lot of attention to me."
"I thought that it was an admirer, but it turned out to be you."
